Re-design of the Registration process and My Profile area, and design of My Teachers TV panel and My Viewing Log.
Teachers TV is a DCSF funded (Dept. for Children, Schools and Families) digital TV channel and website dedicated to supporting the professional development of those working in education in the UK.
Teachers TV initially asked Super User Studio to support their in-house technical and visual design team to re-design the website’s Registration and My Profile areas. The pre-existing usability and layout of information in these areas had been fundamentally compromised, due to the conflict between capturing sufficient data to support varied business objectives and providing a quick and inviting service for users.
Gaining an understanding of how the captured data was used by Teachers TV was our starting point. We created and issued targeted questionnaires and held stakeholder meetings and uncovered overarching objectives for the re-design, as well as specific data capture requirements. The process was balanced with an expeditious audience analysis and creation of User Scenarios to identify who their archetypal users were, how they might use the website and what they need to achieve when using it. At this point, we produced a strategy for the remaining development, which started with the production of a refined Data Set. This provided Teachers TV with a prioritised, intuitively re-grouped and re-labelled list of all data that needed to be captured during registration and then be made editable by the user in the profile area. We also extended our research by reviewing related features on other, best of breed websites to see how they tackled any common information design challenges. Task Flows were produced to depict how the typical users might travel through the system before we started to prototype. Interactive prototypes were produced to provide Teachers TV with a testable solution and detailed functional specification for the project.
We have continued to support Teachers TV, with the user experience research and design for the My Teachers TV panel and the My Viewing Log components.
By improving the user experience of the Teacher’s TV website, we were able to support increased acquisition of members and support retention of existing users. Through our continued work with Teachers TV, we have also helped them fulfil a key business objective to better integrate the website resources and activities with school CPD accreditation processes.

Just two weeks after completing our work with Teachers TV for My Viewing Log, an innovative new tool that helps education professionals with CPD planning, more than 60% of users recorded a log against their viewed videos. Crucially, this extends the impact of Teachers TV services and supports improved integration of these services into recognised school practice and accreditation.
